Share Your Story: How Did You Honor Women's History Month?

From Margaret Jackson

What I Did:

I am following my dream and starting March 2012, Women's History Month, I am taking what I have loved doing part-time and as a volunteer...and doing it full time!

How I Did It:

For the longest time, I have been asking myself "What do I want to be when I grow up?". First it was a doctor- that is what others seemed to want to hear. Then a dancer - I loved watching the Alvin Ailey dancers. Later, a politician - wow, I saw women making their way in this arena.

Well, I graduated from college and then I "got a job". I began a career in education and counseling. I did what was expected and moved up the ladder. I was successful, but I was not completely satisfied. I needed something else. I began volunteering and then working part-time with women and women's groups and organizations. I LOVED IT! I love and feel good helping women to realize that they can reach their goals, regardless of where they started or the things that may have happened along the way. I enjoy helping other women with my experiences and knowledge.

But this is not a job is it? Hmmmm......

To celebrate Women's History Month, at 40+ I have finally decided what I want to be when I grow up. It is simple, I want to help and motivate other women!

I am celebrating women and following my dream. I am going to do what I LOVE and focus full time on helping women to achieve their goals. Starting in March, Women's History Month, I am taking what I do part-time and making it full-time! I am practicing what I preach, and doing what I love.

Advice

  • At some point in life, you realize you have to stop doing what is expected, and do what you love...especially if it helps others!

What were your hopes and goals? Were they met?

As I prepare for this transition, I feel like I am floating on air. There is something so satisfying about knowing that you have moved into your true destiny.

Jone Johnson Lewis, Women's History Guide, says:

I'm delighted to honor the transition and goals -- because this is not a page for advertising, I've removed the specifics of the business but I believe readers will find this an interesting "take" on how to celebrate the women of history, by using that energy for one's own transformational journey.
