Many all-male or predominantly-male unions encouraged the participation of the members' wives through a ladies auxiliary unit. Through these auxiliaries, women could participate in supporting the union and in building community among the members and their families. Women's Auxiliaries also raised funds for the union and for related causes, and promoted pro-union activities. The slogan of the Typographical Union's Women's International Auxiliary was "Spend Union Earned Money for Union Label Products and Union Services."
This photograph was taken at the Labor Day parade in New York City in 1909. The Women's Auxiliary of the Typographical Union had their own float they proudly entered into that parade.
