For Women's History Month or any time of the year, you can easily use one of many pictures on this site as your desktop wallpaper.
On a Windows PC, the technique is simple: find an image that you want as your desktop wallpaper, then right click on the image, and choose "Set as Wallpaper." It's as simple as that in most cases. You may need to select "stretch" as you're saving, or right-click on the desktop, select Properties, then the Desktop tab, then pull-down the menu at "Position" and choose "stretch." Again, that's with Windows.
Not all images on the Net will work well as wallpaper. I find that some are too busy and distracting; other images are too small or are not the right proportion. Depending on the proportions of your desktop monitor they may slightly distort the image, making individuals look either skinnier or fatter than in the original. Remember that if they're from old photographs they'll be a bit grainy.
Here are some images on this site that I think work well as desktop wallpaper:
- Suffrage March - New York, 1912 - showing crowd and marchers on a New York street
- Ohio Considers Woman Suffrage Amendment - a storefront with the sign, "Give the Women a Square Deal"
- Suffrage March - New York, 1913 - a march down the streets of New York
- Suffrage March - New York, 1913 - detail from above image, focusing on some marchers
- Suffrage parade, March 3, 1913, Washington, D.C. down Pennsylvania Avenue with the US Capitol in the background -- this one is my favorite
- Inez Milholland Boissevain on her white horse
- Congressional Union for Woman Suffrage Headquarters, Washington, D.C., 1917
- Kentucky Governor Morrow signs ratification of the Anthony Amendment, January 6, 1920
- 1890s: Woman on the prairie
- Mother Jones, President and Mrs. Coolidge and Theodore Roosevelt, jr. -- 1924
