Inez Milholland, wearing white, is one of four heralds leading the National American Woman Suffrage Association parade in Washington, DC.

Miholland, who had been committed to workplace reform, including for children, African Americans, and women, also worked for woman suffrage. She married Eugen Jan Boissevain, a Dutch importer, later in 1913. In 1916, she died, collapsing at a western woman suffrage event. Eugen Jan Boissevain later married the poet, Edna St. Vincent Millay.
