About Elizabeth Britton:
Britton is recognized as a botanist, particularly for her study of mosses and, later in life, for her active involvement in the preservation of wildflowers.
Britton inspired and helped to organize the creation of the New York Botanical Garden. Her husband was the first director-in-chief, beginning in 1896, and she was the unofficial and unpaid curator of mosses for the Garden.
