This was one of five medals Torres won at the 2000 Summer Games. She also won bronze in the 50 meter Freestyle, the 100 meter Freestyle and the 100 meter Butterfly, and a second gold medal as part of the 4x100 meter Medley Relay team.

On September 16, 2000, Dara Torres, Amy Van Dyken, Courtney Shealy and Jenny Thompson of the United States won the Women's 4x100 meter Freestyle Relay at the Summer Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia. After receiving the medals, the teammates decided to bite them, just to make sure they were real.
