Decker left the track in tears, and was unable to finish the race. Budd finished seventh with the mostly-American crowd booing her. Officials ruled it an accident, not an obstruction, and when Budd tried to apologize, Decker responded, "Don't bother." Great Britain's Richard Slaney is shown here helping Decker; they were later married.
