Maureen Reagan, eldest child of US President Ronald Reagan and his wife, Jane Wyman, forged a political presence herself as an activist and political commentator. At one time in the 1980s she co-chaired the Republican National Committee. She supported the ERA and was pro-choice on abortion.
In her later years, as her father fought Alzheimer's, she became a fundraiser and educator fighting that disease. Maureen Reagan died in 2001, when her melanoma spread. She was survived by her third husband, Dennis Revell, and their adopted daughter, Rita Mirembe.
