Originally painted on wood, this image of Juana La Loca -- Queen Joanna of Castile and Aragon, daughter of Isabella I of Castile and Ferdinand II of Aragon -- has a French inscription, "Madame Jehanne de Castille."

Joanna of Castile and Aragon, also known as Juana, Jehanne or Joan, was called "the Mad" or "la Loca" because of her father's allegations that she was mentally ill, his rationale for ruling Castile after her mother's death in Joanna's name.
