Sarah McLachlan is known as the founder; others who were involved in founding the festival were Terry McBride, Dan Fraser and Marty Diamond.

Lilith Magazine is a not-for-profit quarterly publication that is unapologetically feminist and Jewish.

Mission: "Lilith magazine charts Jewish women's lives with exuberance, rigor, affection, subversion and style."

Lilith Fair is named for the mythical figure Lilith mentioned in ancient and medieval sources, and adopted by modern feminism.

The 2010 revival fell apart as attendance was much lower than planned and many major artists dropped out.

The festival raised money for women's charities in North America.
