In one of her victories, Joan of Arc led the French on May 7, 1429, in storming the fortress of Tournelles, which the English were occupying. A letter written on April 22 includes Joan's prophecy that she would be wounded in this engagement, and she was struck by an arrow during the battle. Five hundred English were killed in the battle or while escaping. With this battle, the seige of Orléans was ended.

This battle followed by a day Joan's successful battle at the Bastille des Augustins, where the French captured six hundred prisoners and freed two hundred French prisoners.
