Godey's Lady's Book - Women's Fashions, 1860s Style

Godey's Lady's Book, edited by Sarah Josepha Hale, was the most popular woman's magazine in America until the time of the Civil War. The magazine set style, fashion and "proper" women's roles for middle class women in America for much of the 19th century. In this illustration, from the December 1864 issue, winter and Christmas fashion was featured.
