This is the first time that the National Portrait Gallery has displayed portraits of a sitting president and first lady. The portrait of Laura Bush is by the artist Aleksander Titovets. Her portrait and that of her husband were privately funded.
Laura Bush's portrait was unveiled at the National Portrait Gallery in Washington, DC, on December 19, 2008.
