"Click!"

Feminism Definition

From

Click

Definition: A code word for the awakening of feminist consciousness, or a moment of truth in which the need for the Women's Liberation Movement and one's own personal liberation became irrevocably clear.

Origin: Jane O'Reilly described a bevy of "click!" moments in "The Housewife's Moment of Truth," which appeared in the preview issue of Ms. magazine in 1971. She called the "click!" moment a realization of instant sisterhood.

Examples of "click" moments described by Jane O'Reilly:

A woman watches her husband step over a pile of toys, then angrily ask why she can't keep the house picked up. "Click!" The woman replies, "You have two hands."

As a hostess and female guest finish washing the day's dishes, a male houseguest enters the kitchen and asks, "How about something to eat?" He then waits to be served. "Click!" The hostess replies that they both work all week, and if he wants to eat, he can make himself something and then wash up.
