Amid controversy, a film adaptation of Ntozake Shange's choreopoem, retitled "For Colored Girls," was released on November 5, 2010. The film as released was written, directed and produced by Tyler Perry. Among the controversies was whether a Tyler Perry production would do justice to a black feminist classic.
