Molly Pitcher

American Revolution Heroine

Molly Pitcher, usually identified as Mary Hays McCauly or McCauley, was a "water girl" at the battle of Monmouth in June, 1768, when her husband collapsed at the cannon he was loading -- and she took over his post.
