Fifty-seven year old woman sharecropper from Hinds County, Mississippi, holds black beads which she has hung between her breasts believing they are good for heart trouble. This photograph was taken by Dorothea Lange as part of her work with the U.S. Farm Security Administration. Dorothea Lange's photograph of a California pea picker, known as "Migrant Mother," is more well known than this picture of a black woman during the Depression.
