Bogolanfini or mud cloth is made traditionally by the Bamana women in Mali, and was often used as part of life passage rituals.

Mud cloth is usually made of cotton, soaked in Bogolon tree leaves to turn it yellow, dyed with color made from fermented mud, washed in a solution to bind the mud, dried, then selectively bleached to bring out light colored areas.
