At the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition held in Chicago, the Woman's Building was designed to show the progress of women worldwide.

Sophia G. Hayden was the architect of the Woman's Building. A Board of Lady Managers with representatives from each of the states in the United States organized the exhibits and events for the Woman's Building.
