Woodrow Wilson married Edith Wilson during his first term of office, after his first wife, Ellen Wilson, died during that same term. During his second term, Wilson suffered a stroke, and Edith Wilson exercised authority in keeping the presidential power in his hands. Some have alleged she went so far as to actually make presidential decisions for him during that time, essentially becoming the "first woman president."
