Lynette Woodard, women's basketball pioneer, was a star in high school and college, and went on to play on national USA teams, as well as teams in Italy and Japan. She was co-captain when the US women's basketball team won the gold at the 1984 Olympics. She became the first woman to play professional basketball on an equal basis with men when she was selected as the first woman to join the Harlem Globetrotter team. She played the first two seasons of the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) before retiring as a player, moving on to coaching.
