Women in Ancient History

By , About.com Guide

Photography, of course, is very new, so all we know about how ancient women looked are some contemporary descriptions and, occasionally, crude depictions by modern standards, on temples, coins, etc.

How these famous women were depicted by artists often reflected much more about the artist's time than any true representation of the ancient woman. Enjoy this image gallery showing how some of history's most famous (and infamous) women have been pictured.
