Diana Ross grew up in a housing project in Detroit, Michigan, and was, with the Supremes, one of the leading acts with Motown Records in the 1960s. In 1969, Ross moved on to a solo career, and remained a top-of-the-charts recording artist through that time. She's continued to be popular into the 21st century.
