In 2005, Oprah Winfrey gathered "Legends" -- African American women "who have paved the way for others." A glamorous event, with a black-and-white theme, it was held at the Bacara Resort and Spa in Santa Barbara, California.

Dorothy Height was for four decades the president of the National Council of Negro Women (NCNW). She led the NCNW through the civil rights years and into the 21st century.

Dorothy Height died in April of 2010.
