Abenaki

Native Americans (First Nations people) in northern New England and southern areas in Canada's Quebec and Maritimes, part of the larger Eastern Algonquin language group, and part of the Wabanaki Confederacy. (Abenaki and Wabanaki are cognates.) Those in New England were pushed into Canada with the settlement of British colonists. The Abenaki were allied with the French during the conflict called King William's War, around the same time as the Salem witch trials in Massachusetts, and were responsible for a number of raids into the British colonies, killing and capturing many of the colonists.
