    1862: Nettie Rogers Shulerborn (clubwoman, reformer: suffrage)

    1897: Dorothy Day born (journalist, reformer, a founder of the Catholic Worker)

    1900: Margaret Mitchell born (reporter, writer)

    1908: Martha Gelhorn born (reporter)

    1909: Katharine Hepburn (actor) claimed this birthdate for years before revealing in her book Me that it was actually May 12, 1908

    1990: Mary Robinson elected as president of the Republic of Ireland ( story)
