    1836: Mary Dana Hicks Prang born (art educator, kindergarten pioneer, reformer: peace)

    1866: Martha McChesney Berry born (educator)

    1907: Helen MacInnes born (writer)

    1957: Jayne Torvill born (ice skater, ice dancing Olympic medalist)

    1985: Lynette Woodward selected as first woman to play for the Harlem Globetrotters. Woodward was captain of the US Olympic women's basketball team that won a gold medal in 1984.

    1991: Anita Hill publicly accused Clarence Thomas, nominee for Supreme Court Justice, of sexual harassment -- inappropriate and unwelcome sexual comments -- while she worked for him at the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.
