    1847: Vinnie Ream born (sculptor: statue of Sappho at Arlington Cemetery)

    1867: Fannie Fern Phillips Andrews born (pacifist, writer)

    1873: date claimed by Calamity Jane for the birth of her child, which she said was fathered by Wild Bill Hickok. Her claims for the child's existence, Hickok's fatherhood of the child, and even for the affair and/or marriage with Hickok are not accepted by many historians.

    1931: Barbara Walters born (journalist)

    1981: Sandra Day O'Conner sworn in as U.S. Supreme Court Justice -- the first woman to hold that office
