Considering Woman Suffrage
An article by Jone Johnson Lewis, Women's History Guide

It's hard for me to imagine, now that women have had the vote (at least in the US) for eight decades, how people justified opposition to woman suffrage.

In the interest of understanding the historical reality of the anti-suffrage movement, I've added to this site a reproduction of a 1906 editorial from Life (November 15, 1906), expressing skepticism about granting women the vote.

One of the chief arguments was that women don't WANT the vote.

I've even included with the article the illustrations which accompanied it in the original.
