Civil War - Woman's Photograph
Images of Women's History collected by Jone Johnson Lewis <Back to Last Page>   <Picture Gallery - Women and the Civil War>  <Picture Gallery - All Topics>

Bodice detail, showing the trim, buttons, collar. Note the pin at the collar, which does not match the buttons.  Also note how the lines of the dress draw the eye outward at the shoulder line, which was the fashion of the time (small waist, wide shoulders, wide hips with hoops adding to the effect).

Unidentified woman, Civil War period, McCormick and Hayes studio, Pennsylvania. About 1860-1865.
