    1083: Queen Matilda, wife of William I (William the Conqueror) of England, died. She was buried at a convent in Caen which she founded.

    1709: Anne of Hanover born (daughter of England's George II)

    1755: Marie-Antoinette born (queen consort of Louis XVI of France)

    1829: Elizabeth Ann Rogers born (Sister Beatrice, Anglican religious, educator; sister of Ellen Albertina Polyblank, Sister Albertina)

    1883: Jessie Daniel Ames born (reformer: suffrage, anti-lynching)

    1892: Alice Brady born (actor)
