Francesca Alexander
(February 27, 1837 - January 21, 1917)

Alexander, born in Boston, moved with her family to Europe when she was sixteen. She lived most of her life in Florence, where she worked with her mother. Her philanthropy in Tuscany opened the door for her to collect folk songs, folk customs and other folklore, which she published through her connection with John Ruskin.
