| 100 Most Important Non-Fiction Books by 20th Century Women |
We are seeking suggestions about books that should be on every well read woman's and girl's book list. Thus far, our titles emphasize women's history and women's contribution to culture. We are looking for books that give women pride in being women, that restore women's history to them, and that help women deal with the trials and tribulations of every day life. We are especially concerned that the list reflect the entire range of womankind and not become a list about books by and for middle-class white women. We ask you to contribute titles of such books written by women, especially books that celebrate any area of women's lives in which you feel you have expertise, particularly books about African-American, Chicana, Latina, and Asian-American women in addition to Asian, Latin American, African, and Eastern European women. We are interested in all facets of women's lives.
For some books I'd think about for any such list, check out my nominations for books that changed the world by American women (not all are 20th century), and also my book list suggestions for reading groups on women's history topics.
You're invited to send your nominations for this list directly to Pat Cross at sunshine@pinn.net. You can also copy your list to me for posting to the discussion on this topic at the Women's History Forum, or, better, you can post your list yourself at the Women's History Forum and join the discussion there. (I'll be sending whatever I receive to Pat Cross, too, so she won't miss any of your ideas.)
