Madame Chiang

Friday October 24, 2003
Madame Chiang, widow of Chinese Nationalist leader Chiang Kai-shek, has died in New York at 105 years old. Her Western education (Wellesley College) and fluent English helped her to support her husband's rule over China and, after his defeat by Mao Tse-tung's Communist forces, in Taiwan.
