Top 100 Most Popular Women of History

By January 1, 2014

Follow me on:

Over a few years, I researched web popularity of more than 300 women of history, and have put together a list of the 100 most popular over time. While not a scientific study, it's an interesting way to match up the women you think are important to history, with who the general public is trying to find out more about. My list: Top 100 Women of History on the Net

A few blogs have picked up this list and added a few others they'd have liked to see on the list -- and their commenters added many more -- many thinking it was my judgment, not the general public's, that determined the order of the list. I, too, mourn the absence of many of the women that these bloggers and commenters wish were on the list -- and checked for many of them in my research.

So, how do we increase interest in some of the women who are not so popular now, but are important to history? How do we increase interest in the genuinely-most-important (if there is such a measure)? That, to me, is the most important question about the list! On-topic comments welcome below.
