Abigail Adams is one of my heroines, because she dared to think outside of the constraints of her society/culture. She made investments and conducted business on her own, while her husband was overseas, and clearly felt that the profits were hers to use to benefit her family. As a military wife, I appreciate her courage and independence and find them inspiring! Long before email and Skype, Abigail was making decisions, knowing her husband would support her when he eventually returned home, and she was not afraid to demand that he send her trade goods from Europe so she could resell them at a profit. Abigail Adams was right to ask that the Founding Fathers “remember the ladies” and take womens’ interests into account as they shaped a new nation.
Abigail Adams managed the farm and family finances; also she is passionate about her work. Brought more intellect and ability to the position of the United States First Lady than any other woman. She was an invaluable contributor to the founding and strengthening of the United States. Inspirational woman for all of us.
