Wisdom Guiding Science

Science was traditionally personified as a woman, ironic in times when women were not permitted or encouraged to pursue the study of science. In this 19th century image, the goddess of wisdom is seen guiding Science, as a woman, as the messenger god carries Science around the world. For Women's History Month, 2013, we remember many noted scientists who have made contributions in the fields of science, despite opposition and discrimination.
