Sojourner Truth, a slave turned preacher and lecturer, worked for both the antislavery cause and for women's rights. Her famous "Ain't I a Woman" speech -- while likely not exactly as it was later remembered -- created quite a stir and called attention to the relationship between racial justice and women's rights.
