Top 100 Women of History

Which notable women are people looking for on the Net? Over the past twelve years, I've been keeping statistics on web searching on many notable women, past and present. I've recently updated the list and made it a little easier to navigate. I invite you to explore and see who's who and who's where on the Top 100 list.

Note that this is not a list of the "100 most important women" but a list of the 100 most searched-for! Certainly I'd have made some different choices. What does the list say about our culture and about what people think of women?

A few of the women who did not make the top 100: Eleanor of Aquitaine, Queen Nefertiti, Betty Friedan, Phillis Wheatley, and Emma Goldman.

Interesting list. As you say, just as interesting for its omissions as for its inclusions. I was also surprised that there weren’t more sports figures on the list, given our national obsession with sports.
