A tradition has the White House decorated for Christmas, for various events as well as for public visits. In this photograph, taken during a special welcoming of military Blue Star families to the White House in 2011 by First Lady Michelle Obama, the portrait of former First Lady, Lady Bird Johnson, is featured, displayed in the Vermeil Room above a neoclassical fireplace with female mythological figures.

Lady Bird may not have had a huge impact on public policy, but I respect her beautification efforts, and Texans remember her each spring, when we enjoy the profusion of wildflowers along our highways.

Lady Bird was an amazing First Lady. She is responsible for so many beautification projects around the USA, especially, in Texas and Washington, DC. Washington, DC, would not be the same without the millions of flowers planted under Lady Bird’s guidance.
