Louise of Savoy

A remarkable woman of the early 16th century, Louise of Savoy was well educated and saw to the education, as well, of her daughter, Marguerite of Navarre. She influenced her son, Francis I of France, serving as his regent during his absences at the Italian Wars. She also helped negotiate the Treaty of Cambrai (called "The Ladies' Peace").
