Elena Ceausescu and Disastrous Family Planning Policies

Outlaw abortion and birth control, require women to have at least four children, and couple this with poverty and with pseudo-science that promotes blood transfusion to strengthen children and that denies AIDS exists, and you have a recipe for disaster and tragedy. This describes the family planning policies of Elena Ceausescu and her own claims to scientific expertise, and the economic policies and authoritarian rule of her husband, Romania's dictator, in the 1970s and 1980s.
