I didn’t care for Michelle’s gown, it looked like a chenille bedspread to me!
I was hoping you would have images of the Inaugural dresses on your site today. I have to disagree with Suzy. I really liked the ivory dress on Michelle. She’s tall and lovely and could pull off that flowy type of dress. Plus, I think she looked a bit like a bride and I feel like it was a sort of wedding. In fact, Jesse Jackson compared the evening to a wedding and said that today the marriage — the real work — had to start. I think that’s true. Anyway, I think that both women in the photographs above looked fabulous.
I loved both dresses — and thought they were appropriate for each of the women. (I also loved Aretha Franklin’s hat and the rest of her outfit, and thought Diane Feinstein looked great in that eggplant or purple or whatever shade it was.) Mostly, though, I’m tired of judging the First Lady by what she wears. It’s a celebration, she was wearing something relatively comfortable and charming — and she is who she is, six feet tall with broad shoulders and hips. More of us have her wardrobe challenges than Jill Biden’s! If Michelle had worn something more severe, she’d be criticized for THAT.
I agree with Jone that we spend way too much time worrying about wardrobes. I loved Michelle’s choices because they were daring. And Aretha’s hat rocked!
I agree that Michelle Obama can carry off any outfit she chooses, but I didn’t like this gown as well as I liked her Inauguration Day coat and dress. I think of her as a trend-setter, and this dress was too frilly and traditional for my taste.
I felt sorry for Jill Biden, walking in those boots – I’ve done the military ceremony/reception thing a few times and comfortable shoes make all the difference. I was glad to see her looking comfortable and relaxed at the inaugural balls.
(Off Topic – I actually enjoyed seeing Vice President Biden the most – he looked truly overjoyed!)
