So who is Sarah Palin, John McCain's choice for the Republican candidate for Vice President of the United States? She will be the second woman to be nominated for that office by a major party, and the first by the Republican Party.
A pro-life feminist who's supported teaching creationism in the schools, a proponent of drilling in the Alaskan Wildlife Reserve who stood up to fellow Republicans in Alaska on ethics issues, and a former basketball player and beauty queen, Sarah Palin is a complex woman. She's married -- to an operator for multinational oil company BP -- and is a working mother, with five children, including the youngest born in April, 2008, who has Down Syndrome, and another on track to be deployed to Iraq soon.
