Benazir Bhutto, prime minister of Pakistan from 1988-1990 and 1993-1996, has been killed in a suicide attack in Pakistan as she spoke in her campaign to be elected again. Benazir Bhutto was the first female head of state of a Moslem country in the modern world.

I hate to trot out the old “hope her death was not in vain” – but I really do hope that Ms Bhutto’s death does provide a bit of a nudge toward democracy.
