One of the key organizations of feminists in the so-called second wave of feminism (1960s and later), the National Organization for Women (NOW) was founded in 1966 to take action to make equality of the sexes a reality. NOW's focus has changed over time, focusing in early years on the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA), and later on sexual politics. In 1994, NOW won a Supreme Court decision which kept groups protesting abortion from blocking access to clinics; in 2006, this protection was, essentially, removed.
