Voting Rights for Women Tested and Denied

In Missouri in 1872, Virginia Minor tried to register to vote, and she sued when the registrar wouldn't allow her registration. The case went to the Supreme Court, which in 1874 decided that women were citizens but that voting was not a necessary part of being a citizen.
