Mary Dyer is now honored with a statue at The State House in Boston, but on June 1, 1660, she was hanged for the crime of being a Quaker. Her life reminds us of some of the downsides of our religious past, when people emigrated to the New World for their own freedom but did not extend that privilege to others.
